The Work Release Facility contains housing, administration and counseling, dining and recreation clustered around a central common space which serves as the focus of activity and control. Housing is on two levels with floor openings to aid supervision. Double bedrooms are organized in clusters of 16 residents each sharing a small television lounge and toilet/shower facility. Central facilities include a library alcove, exercise room, vending machines, game room and quiet recreation space.
As energy efficiency was a priority the structure utilizes orientation, shading and earth berming to reduce heat gain and loss. A fan-assisted natural ventilation system in the housing areas reduces the need for air conditioning. The building is designed for future expansion by the construction of additional housing clusters.
