Houston County hired Klein McCarthy Architects to assist with the master planning, design and construction of a new justice facility to replace their outdated 1857 jail. The new Justice Center includes a jury courtroom, hearing room, modern Law Enforcement Center, and an 82 bed jail. The Justice Center is located in the downtown courthouse square adjacent to the historic courthouse built in 1883.
The exterior design and materials reflect the classical proportions and relationships of the surrounding buildings. Landscape planters and screening was added to maintain the open green plaza space in the center of the complex while also respecting the neighborhood qualities and Veterans Memorial.
The Houston County Justice Center was featured as The Facility of the Month in the Nov/Dec 2011 issue of Correctional News.
