Klein McCarthy Architects was hired to design an addition and remodeling of the existing Winona County Office building to produce a
combined home for the Community Health, Human Services and Veteran's Services Departments.
In conjunction with planning to accommodate staff areas and flexible growth strategies, Klein McCarthy worked closely with the user groups to provide a 'Public Service'
floor where all public interaction can occur. This progressive design minimizes the flow of the public through the lower and upper levels of the building, allowing for more
flexible and functional staff work areas.
With a highly urban site in a prominent downtown location, the design team made clear visible entry points a high priority. The alignment and layout of the addition allows
for primary access into and through the main public lobby from both the east and west sides of the facility. The design also helps reinforce the relationship between this
building and the Courthouse to the southeast. In addition to progressive design and planning, the building includes a significant investment in sustainable and energy saving
features following LEED guidelines.
