WILKIN COUNTY JAIL & LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER
BRECKENRIDGE, MN

Home : Projects : Jails : Wilkin Co.

The Jail and Joint Law Enforcement Center is a modern, yet respectful addition to a historic courthouse. Like many rural authorities with limited resources, Wilkin County faced a decision to build their own jail or provide costly transportation to distant facilities. Klein McCarthy's feasibility study demonstrated a reduction in long-term operating costs by laying out the dispatch and jail security control functions in a single hub. This central point of supervision enables minimal staff to safely monitor all dayrooms and intake/release. The two-colored precast and massing of the new structure complements the existing courthouse and incorporates a secure link for inmate transfer between buildings. The law enforcement center houses both city police and county sheriff personnel while the jail will accommodate a future second level, 60-bed direct supervision pod with secure elevator access.
