The 92-bed expansion added over 22,000 square feet to an existing 62-bed female unit on the Shakopee campus. The expansion included four
internal living units, each containing 11-12 double occupancy bedrooms (four are ADA accessible), communal toilets and lavatories, individual showers, and personal
laundry facilities. All beds are floor mounted instead of the more common stacked bunks and each occupant has their own wardrobe and millwork desk unit. Central to
the program of this addition is the provision of separate living and kitchenette areas for every 22-24 beds to increase resident privacy and simulate a more
relaxed, "domestic" dwelling.
