MCF Shakopee 62 Bed Housing Unit
SHAKOPEE, MN

Home : Projects : Prisons : MCF Shakopee 62 Bed Housing Unit

The Minnesota Correctional Facility at Shakopee (MCF/SHK) is regarded as an innovative institution designed to create and foster rehabilitative opportunities for women. The campus is located in the heart of a quiet residential community without a perimeter security fence, a unique feature rarely found among correctional facilities in the United States.

The new 62-bed housing unit configuration includes four units of 8 bedrooms clustered around a separate living room, kitchenette, laundry, private showers and toilet room. In addition, building activity rooms and a residential kitchen include capacity for expansion to an additional 62 beds. Programming and living spaces are designed to be non-threatening with good visibility, offer privacy and opportunities for positive interaction, and provide a setting for inmates to make a dignified transition back into society.
