Houston County Justice Center
CALEDONIA, MN

Home : Projects : Law Enforcement Centers : Houston County Justice Center

The current Houston County Law Enforcement Center / Jail was built in 1875 and is the oldest operating jail in the state of Minnesota. The LEC is adjacent to the historic courthouse which was built in 1883. The Sheriff's Office, like many older facilities, has inadequate space and technology needed to keep pace with current Law Enforcement procedures. Staff, files and evidence have been placed in multiple locations and multiple buildings over time to address the need. The new facility will accommodate proper procedural and processing requisites to support Law Enforcement requirements and promote staff efficiency. The facility was designed to provide a clear identity for the Sheriff's Office at the main entrance to the building with convenient public access, while also providing secure and separate staff circulation and access to the jail.

The new Law Enforcement Facility provides space for:

  • County Staff and Multi-Jurisdictional Agencies (such as DNR, BCA and State Police)
  • Training, Debriefing & Muster Space
  • Emergency Operations Center
