Clay County Juvenile Center & Courts Remodel
MOORHEAD, MN

Home : Projects : Juvenile Centers : Clay County Juvenile Center & Courts Remodel

Sponsored by Clay County under the legislature's Juvenile Facilities Grant Program, this project serves seven west-central Minnesota counties with 24 secure detention beds and a 12 bed minimum security "Shelter Care" unit. The facility involved adaptive reuse of an existing two-story medical clinic building, with a third floor addition, for a total area of 35,246 square feet. The remodeling/construction cost was $3.2 million including furniture, fixtures and equipment.

The first floor of the existing building provides administrative, intake, and staff facilities with expansion office space for future County needs. A first floor addition provides a secure vehicle sally port. Second floor remodeling accommodates the "Shelter Care" program with associated recreation and support space. The third floor addition provides twenty-four secure detention beds with three direct-supervision housing units, a central control center, and adjacent visiting, education, and counseling facilities. The facility was occupied in the Fall of 1997.
